Gloss-Bridge: A Method to Reduce the Visual Perception Gap between Real-World Glossiness and PBR Reflectance Properties in Virtual Reality

چکیده
With the rapid development of virtual reality (VR) technology, digital materials have become more realistic and controllable, offering new opportunities for material perception research. However, parameters physically based rendering (PBR), which are widely used in industry, often derived from design experience lack interpretability. This study aims to investigate visual difference glossiness between real environments. A compensation method is proposed bridge gap real-world PBR. Two psychophysical experiments conducted. Experiment 1 measures psychological with different world VR using a two-alternative forced-choice (2AFC) design. 2 establishes connection multiple PBR psychologically perceived obtained through matching adjustment experiment. Finally, mapping real-time rendering, Gloss-Bridge, introduced. maps physical quantity (measured by gloss meter) various parameters. By instead empirical parameters, it eliminates tedious hyper-parameter adjustments. achievement provides basis production on subjective

متن کاملA method to bridge the gap between affordance formalisation and visual simulation in virtual environment
Affordance Modelling and Simulation 2 Abstract Recently, Wells (2002) suggested using the formalism of the Turing Machine to describe the concept of affordance. Even though the author has shown that the generic properties of the concept were taken into account in this modelling, no research has yet attempted to model adaptive behaviour in an ecosystem with this formalism. In this paper, we prop...
متن کاملReal-world illumination and the perception of surface reflectance properties.
Under typical viewing conditions, we find it easy to distinguish between different materials, such as metal, plastic, and paper. Recognizing materials from their surface reflectance properties (such as lightness and gloss) is a nontrivial accomplishment because of confounding effects of illumination. However, if subjects have tacit knowledge of the statistics of illumination encountered in the ...
متن کاملInvestigating the Educational Capabilities of Virtual Reality Technology Based on the Evaluation of Visual Perception Components
Since virtual reality technology is increasingly and widely used in various fields, and in particular education, it is necessary to examine the audience’s perception obtained using this technology in order to study its instructional capabilities. So, the present study aims to investigate the instructional capabilities of the virtual reality system using a comparative analysis of environmental p...
متن کاملAlignment Errors between Real and Virtual World in Augmented Reality
In the last decade, augmented reality (AR) technology was of significant interest in the medical field. However, designing a medical AR system is still challenging, because the expectations on accuracy and stability in such a setting are high. Misalignment of the computer-generated objects would greatly compromise the utility of such systems. Especially in medical training, where the viewpoint ...
